    1. Where do you go to get your business licenses for an ice cream shop in California.

    2. Why does your website claim to file for DBA free of charge, but shows the associated cost of filing as $119, when requesting this service? Please help me understand this disconnect.

    Answer by SellerPermit.com:

    1. You can obtain the license here.

    2. Yes the cost is the government fee. Depending on your state you need to pay a state fee to file your business name. Our service is free but the state fees is for the state is not for us.

    3. Yes, for music distribution, it is better to file an LLC rather than a DBA filing.

    Cleaning Business: Dirt-Free and Dollar-Rich

The cleaning industry is cleaning up, with revenues expected to hit over $74 billion in the U.S. alone. From residential cleaning services to commercial janitorial contracts, there’s a ton of opportunity to make things shine and make bank. Plus, with relatively low startup costs, your mop could turn into a money-making machine. And hey, who doesn’t love the smell of success mixed with lemon-scented cleaner?

    Business Name: Make it Shine

First things first—your business name. Think catchy, memorable, and professional, like “Sparkle Squad” or “Dust Busters Cleaning Co.” Registering your business name makes it officially yours, so no one else can steal your sparkle. It’s like putting a shiny label on your service cart—everyone knows who’s responsible for that spotless shine!

To LLC or Not to LLC?

Choosing your business structure is a crucial step. Here’s the lowdown on your options:

    • LLC (Limited Liability Company): This is a popular choice for cleaning businesses. It protects your personal assets from any business-related messes, keeping your savings safe if something goes awry. Think of it as a protective bubble wrap around your personal life while you scrub away the grime.
    •
    • S Corporation: If you’re aiming to scale up, hire a team, or get some fancy tax benefits, an S Corp could be your jam. It adds a bit more complexity with paperwork and rules but can be beneficial for a growing business. Consider it like upgrading from a basic broom to a high-tech vacuum.
    •
    • Sole Proprietorship: For those who like to keep it simple and are starting small, this might be your route. However, be aware that you and your business are one entity—meaning if something spills over, it could affect your personal assets too. It’s like cleaning without gloves—direct and straightforward, but a bit risky.

    Licenses: Scrubbing Up Legally

To keep your cleaning business squeaky clean with the law, you’ll need a few licenses. Here’s your checklist:

    • General Business License: This is your all-access pass to legally operate your cleaning services and bid for contracts.
    •
    • Specialized Cleaning Licenses: Depending on the type of cleaning (like dealing with hazardous materials or biohazards), you might need additional licenses to show you can handle the tough stuff safely.
    •
    • Bonding: Many clients, especially commercial ones, may require that you are bonded. This provides a financial guarantee that you will complete the job according to the contract. It’s like a security deposit on your reliability.
    •
    • Insurance: Liability insurance is crucial to protect against any accidental damages or injuries. It’s the safety net for those unexpected slips and spills.

    Special Permits: Beyond the Basics

Depending on your specific services, you might need a few extra permits:

    • Environmental Permits: If you’re using or disposing of any harsh chemicals, you’ll need permits to ensure you’re eco-friendly and compliant. It’s like having a green thumb for your cleaning supplies.
    •
    • Home Occupation Permit: If you’re running your cleaning business from home, you might need this to show it’s cool with your neighborhood regulations.
    •
    • Waste Disposal Permits: For services involving large amounts of waste (like post-construction cleanup), these permits ensure you’re disposing of materials properly.

Equipment: The Tools for a Gleaming Business

To tackle dirt and grime efficiently, you’ll need the right tools. Here’s what should be in your cleaning arsenal:

    • Cleaning Supplies: All-purpose cleaners, disinfectants, glass cleaners, floor polishers—you name it. Stock up on the essentials to cover all types of surfaces.
    •
    • Specialized Equipment: For deep cleaning or specialized jobs, think power washers, carpet cleaners, and steam cleaners. These are the heavy hitters in your lineup.
    •
    • Transport: A reliable vehicle to haul your equipment and supplies to job sites. Think of it as your mobile cleaning command center.
    •
    • Uniforms and Safety Gear: Professional-looking uniforms and protective gear (gloves, masks, etc.) not only keep you safe but also boost your professional image.
    •
    • Office Essentials: Even a cleaning business needs some office gear—a computer, invoicing software, and a phone for scheduling and customer service.
